Eridell is a feudal society, where rank is inherited and there is little occasion for social mobility. All of the land is held by the nobility, with a complex hierarchy of Lords each swearing fealty to the Lord above them. The peasantry are bound to the land on which they are born and may only move with the permission of their landlord. Despite this Eridell finds most of its populace to be quite happy, as Eridell’s nobility holds itself to a strict code of honor/and ethics. While the obligations of this are more social than legal, the power of Lords in Eridell over all those beneath them is near absolute and most will strip a dishonored subordinate of rank and holdings in order to prevent social stigma from turning on them for allowing such offence to go unanswered. It is still more likely that a family will disown a disgraced member, or that the offending party will step down of their own accord before their lord has chance to take such action, in order that they not bring shame upon their whole family. All in all most adhere strictly to these social tenants and such actions are rarely necessary. Justice is at the forefront of this code of honor and it applies evenly to all people. As such, even peasants and foreigners can expected to be treated fairly in all matters.
