- 223 I.C. – 2337 I.C. The Imperial Civil War
It is generally accepted that the Imperial Civil War was started by several of the rulers of the kingdoms of men and was little more than a petty grab for power. As to which kingdoms and which lords began this conflict no one can truly say, as most of the records of that time were lost in The Great Blast, which marked the wars end. For more than a century the conflict escalated eventually consuming all of the know world in war. People of all races died by the millions and as things became more desperate the tactics became more and more extreme. Whole cities were leveled, bargains were struck to enlist the aide of some of the more barbarous races such as the orcs, the goblins, and the ogres, and powerful mages unleashed terrible spells opening portals to other plains to summon forth demons and irrevocably altering the landscape. This eventually culminated in an event that has come to be know as “The Great Blast,” which marked the wars end.

- 3 A.E. – 17 A.E. The Mage Wars
Desperate to placate and enraged populace, which blamed their rulers for the catastrophes of the Imperial Civil War, ________ the King of Orden establishes the mages as a scapegoat blaming their reckless use of magic and lust for power for the sufferings of that conflict, even going so far as to accuse the mages of starting the war in the first place. This idea found traction not just with the populace of Orden, but throughout all the kingdoms of men, as all were plagued by similar civil unrest at the time, and so began the systematic hunting and elimination of any one who practiced the arcane arts. While the mages resisted to great effect, they themselves were heavily weekend by the Imperial Civil War and were unable to resist the will of the world. During this time almost every mage was killed and for many nations the Mage Wars simply petered out as there were no more mages left to hunt. However in the kingdoms of Icewell and Westerlea the Mage Wars found a different ending. A small gathering of mages managed to sue for peace with these kingdoms. In exchange for this peace the mages agreed to offer their aide to the rulers of these kingdoms, but perhaps more importantly they promised to form an organization to police themselves. This organization would ensure that all mages were documented, tested, and controlled in an effort to prevent the unchecked power that destroyed the Old Empire. This new organization would also be responsible for hunting down any mages who would not comply with these new standards.
